The Computer
Centre is a central
facility of the University which caters to the various needs of the
students, research scholars, faculty / scientist and staff members
of the university. The Computer Centre has two components
namely Agricultural Research Information System (ARIS)
Cell and Computer Labs. Apart from these, it also consists
of Class Room and Conference Room. ARIS Cell and Computer Labs are well
equipped with state-of-the-art hardware and software. The departments of
different faculties, RAC Library, Central Library, Administrative
Building and Faculty of Forestry are connected through LAN with a
bandwidth of 256 kbps. The Centre maintains all the activities related
to computer, internet, networking, and software and hardware maintenance
of different units of the University to boost up academic, research and
extension programme.

Services
Academic Programme
v
There are two labs in the Computer Centre.
v
One Lab is exclusively for Internet and research purposes
for UG / PG/ Research Scholars and staff of the university and also for
practical classes of students of B. Sc (Ag.) and B. Sc. (Forestry).
v
One lab is meant for Internet and research purposes for
faculty/ scientist of the University.
v
The Centre gives technical support to users as and when
required.
Internet / Networking
Facility
v
The Centre has SCPC link @256 kbps bandwidth from ERNET
India.
v
The ARIS cell provides connectivity to the faculty members
/ scientists and other staff through VSAT with high speed
Optical Fiber Cable backbone and UTP cabling for
individual nodes and Wireless LAN has also been set-up to extend the LAN
connectivity to the Administrative complex and Faculty of Forestry.

All systems of the Centre are linked by a Local Area
Network and the Centre provides internet facility to the students,
research scholars, faculty, teachers, scientists and staff of the
university.

The Centre has extended Internet facility to the various
Departments and units of the University for more than 40 Nodes and
Computer Centre staff maintains the Internet and Networking facility
itself.
v
e-Journals facility is also available in the centre under
Consortium for e-Resources in Agriculture (CeRA) Project under NAIP
Programme.
University Website
v
Birsa Agricultural University website developed by the
Centre was launched by Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor of the University in 2005
and the website is maintained and continuously updated with latest
information as and when required.
Hardware Maintenance
v
The Centre provides on-site maintenance of systems and
peripherals apart from network connectivity problems to different
departments / units of the university.
Training programme
Training
is one of the main activities of the Centre. The Centre time to time
organizes training programme on Computer Application for the employees /
students of the university.
