Directorate of Students’ Welfare

Simultaneously with the inception of the University the Directorate of Students Welfare came into being. The objective was to organize activities, like, debate, elocution, sports, cultural and other recreational activities, placement, study tour and coordination of all schemes related to fellowship/scholarship and students' hostel management apart from maintaining discipline among the students.

Activities of the Directorate

Fellowship/ Scholarship

University provides merit and merit-cum-means scholarship @ Rs. 350/- and Rs.300/- per month, respectively to undergraduate students of all the three faculties viz. Agriculture, Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry and Forestry to 10% students of the intake capacity. All the students belonging to SC/ST categories are also awarded District Welfare Scholarship @ Rs. 425/- per month. Seventy five percent of intake capacity of postgraduate students in Agriculture, Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry, Forestry and College of Biotechnology are awarded fellowship @ Rs. 1200/ - per month in M. Sc./ MV Sc. and Rs. 1500/- per month in the Ph.D. programmes. University Grant Commission also provides Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship to SC/ST students for M. Sc./ MV Sc. /Ph.D. programme. Undergraduate students belonging to states other than Jharkhand and admitted through ICAR, receive National Talent Scholarship @ Rs. 1000/- per month.

Internship

Students of Veterinary Science undertake intensive internship programme for 6 months after completion of the graduate course requirement in which internship allowance @ Rs. 3000/- per month per student is awarded.

Thesis Grant

Students submitting research thesis as a requirement for award of either M.Sc. or Ph.D degree are provided thesis grant @ Rs. 1000/- and Rs. 1200/- respectively.

Educational Tour

Students of all faculties - Agriculture, Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry, Forestry and College of Biotechnology visit different institutes of academic interest for exposure and interaction with students and faculties of other states apart from visit within the state where students interact with farmes.

  • UG Students of Agriculture Faculty visited Hyderabad from 26th December, 2005 to 2nd January, 2006.
  • UG Students of Agriculture Faculty visited Bangalore in March 2006.
  • UG Students of Faculty of Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry visited Chennai, Coimbatore, Bengaluru and Mumbai from 16th December, 2006 to 3rtt January, 2007.
  • UG Students of Agriculture Faculty visited Hyderabad from 21st to 28th January, 2007.
  • PG Students of College of Biotechnology visited Indian Institute of Chemical Biology, Kolkata, a CS1R Institute from 23rd October to 8th November, 2007.
  • UG Students of Agriculture Faculty visited Darisai (Jharkhand) & Jhargarm (WB) from 4 - 8th February, 2008.
  • UG Students of Agriculture Faculty underwent educational tour to Bengaluru from 5 - 15th February, 2008.
  • UG Students of Faculty of Forestry visited Darisai (Jharkhand) from 4 - 8th May, 2008.
  • UG Students of Faculty of Forestry underwent educational tour to Deharadun from 31st May to 16th June, 2008.
  • UG Students of Faculty of Forestry visited Delhi, Deharadun, Nainital , Musoorie and Lucknow from 24th June to 9th September, 2009.

Other Activities

Students of the University participate in cultural programmes, games & sports meet and deb ate/elocution organized at Faculty, Inter Faculty, University, State and National levels.

Debate/ Elocution

  • Participation in essay competition on Foundation day of the University (26lh June) every year.
  • Competitions are organized at University level for selection to participate in National events.
  • Debate competition for selection & participation of students in Science Congress scheduled from 22 - 24th June, 2009 at Sher-E-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology, Srinagar, Kashmir was organized at University level.
  • Participation in East Zone Inter University Youth Festival at Ranchi University from 2 - 6"1 December 2008.
  • Participation in Zonal Level Research Convention at BHU, Varanasi sponsored by Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi from February 9-11th, 2009.
  • Participation in Inter-University National Debate competition on Cooperation at Regional Institute of Cooperative Management, Bengaluru from 28-30lh December 2005
  • Participation in Inter-University elocution Competition at Wardha (Maharashtra) from 9 - 10lh January 2007. One student participated and bagged a cash prize of Rs. 1000/-
  • Participation in National level debate competition, at Midnapur (WB) from 19-23rd January 2009.
  • Participation in National Symposium on 'National Security and Youth' at GB Pant University of Agriculture & Technology, Pantnagar on 19th February, 2009.
  • Participation in National Level Research convention at Regional Engineering and Sciences University, Howrah, Kolkata from Feb 23 - 25lb, 2009.

Cultural Activities

  • Birsa Jyanti is celebrated at University level every year and students from different faculties & colleges participate and get selected for participation in National level ICAR sponsored Inter Agricultural Universities Youth Festival.
  • Sarhul festival at University level is organized every year.
  • Participation in cultural programmes at Faculty and Inter faculty level on different occasions.
  • Participation in VII All India Agricultural University Youth Festival at OUAT, Bhubaneshwar, from 15 - 17th January, 2006.
  • At the IX All India Inter Agricultural University Youth Festival at MPUAT, Udaipur from 22 - 26th September 2007, one student received 2lld prize in the Spot Painting event.
  • Participation in the X All India Inter Agricultural University Youth Festival at University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore from 5 - 9th February, 2009.

Sports Activities

  • Annual sports at University level are organized every year and students with good performance are selected for participation in National level ICAR sponsored games & sports meet.
  • A friendly football match was organized between students, staff members and teachers on the occasion of Independence Day, 2007.
  • Inter Faculty match of out-door and in-door games on 15th December, 2008.
  • Every year University sports competition is organized during Birsa Jyanti Celebration.
  • Football match with RIMS, Ranchi was organized on 15th August, 2009 where RIMS team won the match.
  • Participation in the Chetan Devraj Tournament Cricket Match at BIT Mesra, Ranchi on 23rd January, 2009.
  • Participation in table tennis tournament for men & women at BIT, Mesra, Ranchi from 7 - 10th November, 2008.
  • Participation in 8th All India Inter Agricultural Universities Games and Sports Meet (ICAR sponsored) at Ludhiana from 23 - 26th February, 2007.
  • Participation in 10th All India Inter Agricultural Universities Games and Sports Meet (ICAR sponsored) at JNKW, Jabalpur, MP from 3 - 6th March, 2009.


University Students' Hostel

University is having all/together 14 students' hostels out of which 5 are for girls while rest 9 are for boys. All the hostels are equipped with modern facilities, like, computer, internet, telephone, common rooms with magazines, newspapers and XV. Each hostel is having indoor game facilities. One Gym has also been provided to boys and girls hostel. In each hostel, mess is being managed by the University and equipped with modern essential items. Recently, two rooms in each hostel have been furnished, one as office of Dy. Warden while another as guest room. Each hostel is connected with generator to ensure uninterrupted power supply.

Facilities for Sports, Games and Literary Activities

All the required facilities for games, sports, cultural and literary activities have been provided to students. There are 4 sports ground in the university. An athletic coach is also there to train the students. Each hostel has been provided with table tennis set, Badminton Court and other in-door games. Recently University has developed a Gymnasium with all essential Gym items at a place where in-door game facilities are also available. A Gym coach is also there to guide the students. Students of Agriculture, Veterinary and Forestry faculties have been provided with all essential cultural instruments required for cultural programmes. At University level, games and sports activities are looked after by Coordinator who is nominated by the Vice Chancellor on the recommendation of Director Students' Welfare while at Faculty level by I/C Sports nominated by respective Deans. Similarly cultural/literary activities at University level are looked after by coordinator while at Faculty level by I/C Cultural/ Literary Societies.

University Hospital

The University has been running a good hospital with a qualified doctor and nursing staff. This facility is available for the students & staff members of the University. For emergency, an Ambulance has also been provided under the control of Warden of Hostels.

To promote the creative talent of students, the Directorate of Students' Welfare is publishing students magazine named as "ZENITH" every year on Foundation Day of the University.

Railway concessions are provided to students during educational tour, for participation in National Level Debate /Elocution /Research Convention, Youth Festival, Games & Sports Meet and holidays to visit native place.
